Milkshakes are underrated delicacies. A velvety texture meets creamy sweetness, fruit, vanilla, or chocolate caress the palate, and a refreshing coolness kisses the tongue – a true feast for those with a sweet tooth! Even brewmasters have discovered their appeal: more and more modern craft breweries are developing brews that combine the hoppy bitterness of beer with the sweet creaminess of a milkshake.
The team at Lervig Brewery resisted the trend for a long time, but curiosity finally won out: Orange Velvet is the Norwegian answer to the hype. Lervig's version is a double dry-hopped IPA, inspired by a fruity milkshake with lactose, mandarin orange, mango, lime, and vanilla. The lactose creates a silky-smooth sweetness on the tongue, while the vanilla and mandarin orange evoke a summery feel and recall a classic ice cream of the past.
The egg-yolk yellow brew pours into the glass with a slight haze, forming a small cap of white foam. A hint of lemon sorbet mingles with sun-ripened orange on the nose. The first sip follows this delicious impression, presenting a composition of creamy vanilla ice cream, tangy citrus zest, tropical fruit, and freshly squeezed orange juice. A mild bitterness subtly balances the sweetness, while the moderate 5.5% alcohol gives this beery milkshake a refreshing kick. Orange Velvet is a highly drinkable beer for fans of sweet, creamy beverages.
