Tyrell BrauKunstAtelier

When Dr. Thomas Tyrell left his managerial position in the German branch of an internationally successful brewery, he had big ideas in mind. And that doesn't just mean the big bottles in which he fills his beer.

A beer-filled life’s work

Long before Thomas became Dr. Thomas Tyrell, he was already a passionate beer lover. The young Thomas decided at the height of his youth that beer would one day be his life. He learned the craft of brewing and, after successfully completing his training, went on a journey for an incredible ten years. His years of wandering took him to new continents and to new ideas. He gained a whole mountain of experience in a wide variety of breweries, visited distant countries and brewed whatever he could. The hard-working brewer also studied at the same time and, upon completing his journey, also completed his degree in brewing engineering at the TU Berlin. His further path took him to the Berlin Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing, where he worked in a variety of roles. After obtaining his doctorate in engineering in 2014, the busy brewer joined the ambitious team at Stone Brewing to set up and manage their Berlin location. Dr. Thomas Tyrell created a whole series of infamous beers and was responsible for many of the legendary collaborations. After years of successful collaboration, the biggest coup of his career to date followed: the step into self-employment. Dr. Thomas Tyrell broke free from the shackles of the contract brewery and decided to do his own thing. The BrauKunstAtelier saw the light of day and has since been Tyrell's refuge where he can give free rein to his wild ideas.

Opulence in champagne bottles

The most wondrous beers have been produced under the roof of the Börnicke estate, which belongs to the Bernauer brewing cooperative, since 2020. Dr. Thomas Tyrell has dedicated himself to brewing beers of the highest class. Using hand-picked (in some cases this can even be read literally, as the brewer has already picked his own hops) raw materials of outstanding quality, the experienced brewer brews beers that are something special even in the world of unusual craft beers. All beers from the BrauKunstAtelier are bottled in champagne bottles and are characterized by their opulence. Tyrell skimps neither on alcohol content nor on taste. His creations are aroma-intensive, complex masterpieces, which the brewer encourages his customers to mature further. The beer specialties in the elegant bottles get better and better over time: they gain in complexity, become even more multi-layered and full-bodied. The brewer recommends that anyone who is now in a dilemma should buy two bottles at once: one for curiosity and one for the cellar.

For every bottle sold, the BrauKunstAtelier donates one euro to the projects of the Quartiermeister association.
