Hardly anyone brews beers with as much elegance and grace as Dr. Thomas Tyrell. The head, heart and genius behind the Tyrell BrauKunstAtelier is dedicated to producing complex, profound and graceful brews. His creative expression is menus for summer and winter, which consist of three beer-based courses and delight with their finesse and culinary intelligence.
The winter beer menu 2024 consists of the Kaiserweisse 2024, the barley wine 2024 and a dark chocolate stout. The main course is the barley wine: a wood-aged barley wine with a fiery 10.2% alcohol content that matured on cagnac barrel wood. The exquisite drop flows into the glass in opaque mahogany brown with a warm, ruby-red sheen and is adorned with a delicate veil of creamy white foam. A heavy bouquet of roasted aromas, toffee and wood caresses the tip of the nose and gently seduces you to take a sip. This is followed by an incomparably soft, feather-light composition of tenderly melting caramel, notes of wood soaked in cognac, espresso-like roasted notes, velvety, playfully sour bitterness and a hint of jammy wild berries. The impressive amount of alcohol is wonderfully integrated into the diverse taste profile and provides the finishing touch with pleasant warmth.
Tyrell’s Barleywine will be released in its third edition in 2024 and we find that Dr. Thomas Tyrell outdoes himself every year.
