When we're thirsty, we turn on the tap and pour ourselves a large glass of tap water. Not all people on earth have this luxury and even in Europe this was unimaginable some time ago. Up until the 19th century, the supply of clean drinking water was more than poor in many places. Water was drawn from wells, lakes and rivers. Because the waste water often ended up in exactly the same places, the cool water often carried germs and bacteria. If you didn't boil the water beforehand, you could catch nasty diseases. The scientific connection between impure drinking water and diseases was largely unknown, but it was known that beer did not make you ill. Breweries therefore produced low-alcohol brews that could be drunk at any time of the day. Even children were given the thin beer to protect them from diseases.
Even if we have access to safe water today, we like to quench our thirst with a beer every now and then. The Hansla from Schlenkerla is perfect for such occasions. The traditional brewery continues the customs of olden times and brews a light beer with a slim 1.2% alcohol content and great character. And because more is usually better, we have packed you a package with 24 bottles of the thirst-quenching Hansla!
