The Wegseidla is a Franconian tradition: the way from A to B is nicer if you have a beer with you, so the Franconians have made it a habit to always have a bottle with them. Of course, this only applies if you are walking and not on your way to an important appointment. But if you hike, make your way home from the regulars’ table, go to a barbecue with friends or stretch your legs after the Sunday roast, then you have a Wegseidla with you.
The original Wegseidla comes from the Aufsesser brewery, which has dedicated its own beer to the beautiful tradition. Their popular Wegbier is now available in numerous versions: the classic Wegseidla , the sparkling Radler and the Winter Edition of the Wegseidla.
Because people don’t only walk on foot in summer and because walking in winter is a lot more uncomfortable, the brewers have come up with a somewhat more substantial, strengthening version of their Wegseidlas. With an alcohol content of 5.4%, the winter version contains a small plus in warming turns and is also somewhat stronger in other respects. Seven different malts ensure the full, steadfast stature, giving the beer a full-bodied taste, a fine roasted aroma and delicate smoky notes.
