In addition to their normal everyday brewing, the Buddelship brewery from Hamburg has a few other projects going on. They meet with brewers from all over the world to set up collaborations, brew special series of limited beer specialties and bought an old farm in 2020. The remaining farm had been idle for some time and was no longer used. Together with friends, they put a lot of time and work into the yard to make it functional again. The goal was to build a thriving farm and grow the raw materials for beer and distillates. The grain, hops and fruit are cultivated under ecological conditions in our own fields and are to be processed in the farm’s own brewery and distillery. The team attaches great importance to traditional techniques: brewing takes place in refrigerated ships, wild yeasts are responsible for fermentation and the finished beers mature in wooden barrels.
Today, operations are in full swing and Lost Horizon Farm has brought the first products to market. This includes the Foeder Helle, which was brewed according to a classic recipe and then stored for three years in a barrel that previously held white wine. This process enriched the beer with elegant fruit notes and deepened the complexity and flavor.
