Craft beer is no longer a new thing in Germany, but Germans still prefer to drink Pils. Of course, preferences vary depending on region, age and personal taste, but Pilsner topped the list of the most popular beer styles in the country for years and is still at the top today. The classic is not as exciting, unconventional and challenging as many craft beers, but it reliably quenches an acute thirst for beer, is refreshing and tastes simply fabulous - especially if it is of good quality.
When we reach for a Pilsner, we like to choose from the old-established breweries as well as from one or two craft breweries. The new generation brings a breath of fresh air to the scene and gives us a completely new, young perspective on established styles.
The Hamburg brewery Buddelship is one of the innovative young talents and has a Pilsner in its line-up that shines with a North German character and a plus of hops. The new interpretation is called Schnagger and is presented in a clear gold with a magnificent head. While the impressive 40 bitter units ensure a crisp bitterness, the two hop varieties Northern Brewer and Rottenburg Spät contribute a playful fruitiness. The 5.3% alcohol content rounds off the enjoyment harmoniously.
Schnagger is a classic pilsner with a modern twist and a subtle hop note.
