Freigeist Beer Culture has made it its mission to rescue old, long-forgotten beer styles from obscurity. With the introduction of the Bavarian Purity Law, many traditional beer styles disappeared in Germany. The craft beer movement not only brings a breath of fresh air to the German beer landscape, but also brings a renaissance to one or two classics.
A beer style that has a centuries-old tradition is Gose. Originally from Goslar, it has spread throughout Germany via Leipzig and is also very popular beyond Germany's borders. For a long time, gose was hardly brewed anymore, but today there are many breweries that are producing sour beer again. Freigeist Bierkultur is one of these and has developed a Gose with fennel seeds. The spicy seeds go perfectly with sour beer and give the drink that certain something.
Freigeist's Fennel Gose flows into the glass in a cloudy amber tone and forms a foamy, white crown. A delicious fruit aroma rises from the foam. In the nose, rhubarb meets tangy lime, and is accompanied by a nice acidity and an earthy herbal note. The fennel is very subtle and gives the scent a spicy note. In terms of taste, the Fennel Gose follows the scent: fruity rhubarb, slightly herbal, citrus-fresh, beautifully sour and a consistent note of fennel. The finish is crispy sour, slightly salty and beautifully herbal.
An extremely successful Gose!
