The Sauerland series from Freigeist Bierkultur consists of the beers Plastic Jug Band and Cool & Dark Decoction. Both beers appear in noble 0.75 l bottles and matured to their full glory in former wine barrels after the completion of the brewing process. Sebastian Sauer has also brought fantastic brewing colleagues on board for both creations.
For Cool & Dark Decoction, the brewer teamed up with his friends from the Pizza Port Brewing Company in San Diego. Together the resourceful Hop Heads created a dark sour fermented in the refrigerated ship, which delights with wonderful acidity and great fruit aromas.
Cool & Dark Decoction flows into the glass in a cloudy amber tone and exudes a seductive scent of wine barrel, caramel malt and sour dark grapes. The initial taste reveals a light-footed body with a voluminous taste and a delicately balanced balance of sweetness and acidity. Fruity notes of rhubarb, black currants and red grapes caress the palate, the malt contributes soft caramel notes and spicy honey. The maturation in the barrel enriches the aromas with notes of raisins soaked in rum and dry oak. The finish tastes like sour grapes and stays on the tongue for a long time with a dry finish.
