When the breweries Freigeist Bierkultur, Beer Kong and Olbermann met for collaboration purposes, it was clear that the planned beer could only be an Alt beer. This traditional style of beer from their homeland has been brewed there for centuries and is just as much part of the culture as Düsseldorf’s old town or Heringsstipp. Because the variety was established so quickly, the brewers had plenty of time to refine their recipe. They didn’t want to reheat just any old camel, they wanted to create a young, fresh and modern interpretation of the legend.
The end result is a hoppy Altbier with a wonderful smoky note that not only makes its creators happy.
The creation is called Alt(es) Aus Liebe and comes with a pleasant 4.8% alcohol content. The new old looks wonderfully dark in the glass: a chestnut brown streaked with copper shimmers fills the vessel and is crowned with a hand’s breadth of lightly tinted foam. The combined scent of roasted malt, campfire, toffee, raisins, smoked ham and delicate citrus tones tempts you to try it. The first sip and all those that follow surprise with a wonderful creaminess that elegantly conveys the moderate sweetness and the variety of aromas. The flavor profile is composed of caramel, smoke, raisins, citrus and roasted malt. A harmonious bitterness accompanies the enjoyment of the beer and concludes it with a roasty, short finish.
