Beer has been brewed in Mitterteich for more than 500 years. The bearer of the brewing rights was Abbot Andreas, who is still honored and thanked to this day. In the Hösl house, the man of God and his good deeds are honored with a special beer: Abbot Andreas’ traditional drink is a fine dark beer made according to a time-honored recipe from the monastery. The beer has a full-bodied character and is malty. Strong roasted malt provides the intensive taste and the fine sweetness.

The beery homage to Abbot Andreas shimmers in the darkest shade of mahogany in the glass and is adorned with a fleeting crown of airy, hazelnut-brown foam. A spicy scent of roasted nuts, caramel and toasted grain fills the air. The initial taste is velvety smooth and delivers flattering notes of crusty bread crust, roasted walnuts, creamy caramel and dark malt. A fine acidity accompanies the drinking pleasure and reminds a little of the sour roasted notes of an espresso. Towards the end, the beer gains in dry wort until the hops take over and provide a bitter finish.

Abbot Andreas would certainly have enjoyed this noble drop! In any case, we enjoy this dark beer and appreciate the intensity of the aroma with a pleasant 4.9% alcohol content and an elegant body.
