Climate change is a topic that has become more and more important in recent years. Initially, only climate researchers looked into the matter, but now everyone is familiar with the word and many of us have started to actively take action against it. The reasons for this development are not least the effects of climate change, which have now also reached us in Europe: summers are becoming drier and hotter, storms are more violent, floods are more frequent and the weather is becoming more unpredictable. This change has countless consequences, many of which we cannot yet fully describe today. However, what can already be identified are problems in agriculture, for example. The increasing drought and the irregular, waterfall-like rainfall pose major challenges for farmers. This also applies to producers of hops and grain.
The hop specialists from the Nuremberg company BarthHaas have teamed up with the Society for Hop Research to get started right there. Together they work to breed varieties that can cope with climatic changes. In order to put their achievements through their paces, they made a test brew with their first breeding and then confidently passed it on to the Rittmayer brewery. They brewed a fabulous light beer that lets us look to the future with a positive outlook.
