Franconia boasts an unparalleled abundance of breweries. Most villages still have their own brewery, offering a wonderful variety of beers. Cozy inns invite visitors in, enticing them with hearty, traditional fare and a rustic atmosphere. Looking around Franconia, one sees that the brewing tradition is still alive and well – even though the last few decades have presented breweries with some challenges and financial difficulties. Not all of them survived the downturn.
The Bauer Brewery in Schönbrunn was founded in 1872 by Adam Eichhorn and passed into the ownership of the Bauer family in the 1930s. The charming inn with its own brewery flourished until the 1960s, but had to close in 1970. The residents of Schönbrunn and their guests fondly remember the brewery and its fine beer.
This memory has now been revived by the Rittmayer Brewery from nearby Hallerndorf. The Rittmayer team has relaunched the full-bodied beer of the former Bauer Schönbrunn Brewery. In collaboration with the Bauer family, they unearthed the old recipe and created a new brew based on the original. This historic full-bodied beer is a gently cloudy, golden delight, boasting a robust 5.9% alcohol content and a well-balanced, easy-drinking character. A delicious tribute to the Bauer Brewery!
