Beer on wine, let it be. Wine in beer, I praise that!
The Frankfurt brewery Flügge has interpreted the well-known truism in its very own way and made the sequence of beer and wine redundant by combining the two in a tasteful hybrid. The marriage of wine and beer creates a drink that combines the tartness and wonderful hop aroma of a beer with the delicate acidity and full-bodied fruitiness of a wine. Flügge came up with a sour beer for this project, which was fermented with a strong Riesling from the Daniel Mattern winery. The result is a dry symphony of fruity acidity, light grapes and delicate hops.
The creation is called Röik and is available in both bottles and cans. In the glass, the beer presents itself in a dark golden tone and is crowned with a hand’s breadth of white, airy foam. A captivating scent of green grapes, juicy lemon and rhubarb fills the air and entices you to take the first sip. This reveals a slim body with lively carbonic acid and a palatable 6.6% alcohol content, which are cleverly integrated into the taste. Notes of light malt, lemongrass, white grapes and stone fruits tingle on the tongue and combine with the aroma of a good Riesling to form an irresistible mixture.
