The Grimbergen Double Ambrée, like the entire range from the Grimbergen Brewery, catches the eye with its distinctive label. This is adorned with a golden phoenix: it is the heraldic animal of Grimbergen Abbey, which can refer to a 900-year-old brewing tradition. Unfortunately, Grimbergen Abbey was completely destroyed by fire three times in its history. However, the monks of the brewery have never lost heart and have continued their craft with courage and diligence. As a symbol of this story, the phoenix was chosen in the coat of arms and the matching motto "ardet nec consumitur" - burned not destroyed.
The Grimbergen Double Ambrée is a bottom-fermented old beer. In the glass it appears in a deep gold tone with red reflections and a velvety foam crown. In the initial taste, the specialty of the Grimbergen Double becomes clear: It is characterized by an exceptionally elegant flavor, which makes the beer pleasantly sparkling. The body of the Grimbergen Double Ambrée scores with a wonderfully velvety mouthfeel. Aromas of hazelnut, malt and red fruits are clearly dominated by the distinctive caramel note of this beer. The bitterness remains discreetly in the background, in addition to the rich caramel, a soft honey note finds its way onto the tongue in the finish. This lets the beer run out with ease, it lasts for an extraordinarily long time.
