With its Mongozo project, the Huyghe brewery is writing a little bit of beer history. According to their own statements, in 2010 they brought out the world’s first beer that is organic, gluten-free and fair trade at the same time. The raw materials for the creation come from controlled organic cultivation and are cultivated and traded under fair conditions. In order to make the beer accessible to a large number of people, it is also allergy-friendly and contains no gluten.
The story behind the Mongozo project is both tragic and hopeful. When one of the founders of Mongozo arrived in the Netherlands in 1993, all he had with him was a set of traditional African beer recipes. He had to flee his homeland and was able to bring a piece of home with him to the Netherlands with his beers. Together with Jan Fleurkens he founded Mongozo and laid the foundation for the brewery. Even after his premature death in 2003, the brewery continued his vision and enriched the beer market with the finest creations.
One of these is Mongozo Coconut. The feather-light fruit beer is brewed with buckwheat and comes in an amazingly light, pale yellow colour. The scent and taste of the beer are characterized by the unmistakable aroma of lightly toasted coconut. Mongozo Coconut is wonderfully refreshing and tastes almost like a cocktail - like summer, sun and a relaxed atmosphere.
