The Australian brewery Coopers is known for its smooth, easy-drinking, and light-bodied pale ales. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the can, the beers have a delightful haze and, despite their low alcohol content, taste full, well-rounded, and refreshing. The Pacific Pale Ale is a real crowd-pleaser in their range – so popular, in fact, that they’ve developed a version with extra hops.
Coopers XPA Extra Pale Ale is slightly stronger than the original at 5.2% ABV and overall a bit richer: more hops, more citrus flavor, a touch more bitterness and a richer color.
The brew with the little extra touch presents itself in the glass with a deep amber gold color and a coppery shimmer. A small crown of ivory-colored foam sits atop, releasing a delicious aroma of freshly peeled mandarin orange and orange zest. The flavor profile continues this first impression, tickling the tongue with soft sweetness and gentle acidity. Subtle malt combines with bright orange notes, pink grapefruit, and an undertone of caramel to create a delightful drinking experience. Despite the addition of the two hop varieties, Lemondrop and Simcoe, the malt still shines through, forming a harmonious counterpoint to the fruity, green gold.
A light and easy treat for relaxed barbecues, game nights, or a chat after training.
