The Moosehead Brewery in Canada traces its origins to Susannah Oland. The mother of nine moved to Dartmouth with her husband and children in the mid-19th century and began brewing beer in her backyard. She supplied the neighborhood and community with her homemade brown ale, which quickly became so popular that her family founded the Turtle Grove Brewery. The business flourished but also suffered catastrophic losses: Susannah's husband died young, the brewery burned down twice, fell victim to the terrible explosion in Halifax Harbor, and endured a period of Prohibition. The family navigated the valleys with unfailing confidence and managed to keep the brewery open despite all the setbacks. A big year for the Olands was 1928, when the Moosehead Pale Ale was first brewed. The brewery wasn't officially named the Moosehead Brewery until 1947, but the legendary beer laid the foundation for the name the brewery bears to this day.
The Oland family, now in its sixth generation at the helm, harks back to its roots with the Moosehead Pale Ale. The original tastes of robust grain, oven-fresh bread crust, soft caramel, citrusy hops, and spicy hay. A straightforward bitterness harmoniously rounds out the crisp, fresh, and drinkable beer.
