The Gekko Brew Co. brewery not only has a knack for beer, but also a talent for capturing us with its designs and plunging us into extravagant daydreams. The label of the Double Dry Hopped India Pale Ale Into the Thick of it depicts a narrow gravel path that winds along the edge of a forest. Old trees covered in velvety, emerald-green moss line the path and you immediately wonder where it might lead. Our fingers (or feet?) itch to follow the path, immerse ourselves in the forest, lose ourselves in dense, impenetrable green and only break out again when we are filled with the scent of wet leaves, the song of cheerful birds, the babbling of a small stream and the wonderful solitude deep in and with nature.
The brew behind this dreamy scenario has a lively 7.0% alcohol content and combines this with an impressive 31 bitter units and a successful balance of full-bodied malt and aromatic hops. A mix of barley, oat and wheat malt delivers a grippy, silky-smooth texture and notes of oven-fresh biscuits, while the Citra and Galaxy hops provide a symphony of peach, melon, lime, mandarin and ripe stone fruit.
With or without a long walk in the woods – Into the Thick of it tastes wonderful in any case!
