An old Icelandic saying goes: “It’s better to stand on your own feet than on someone else’s”.
The Icelandic brewery Einstök has taken this motto to heart and brews real Icelandic beer for Icelanders. Einstök, which means “unique” or “unique” in the Icelandic language, is currently the best-known microbrewery that also offers its products beyond the geographical boundaries of the volcanic island.
Every winter, the Viking that adorns the label of all Einstök beers is decorated with a red nose and magnificent reindeer antlers. This turns the otherwise venerable warrior into a sweet parody of Rudolph the reindeer. But that's not the only thing Icelanders do to get into the festive mood. The Icelandic Doppelbock is also being released for festive decoration.
The clear, espresso-colored winter beer has a wonderfully creamy head and is definitely not the spice-laden, cinnamon-sweet Christmas beer you might expect. The intense scent of roasted malt and fine chocolate and caramel notes underline the strong character of the Doppelbock. The initial taste is relatively mild. Fine caramel and coffee aromas quickly combine with the strong body of the Icelandic Doppelbock without causing any disharmony. The long, mature finish makes you want to spend rough winter evenings in front of the warming fireplace. With this successful winter beer we can hardly wait for the cold season!
