This Imperial Stout from the Greek microbrewery Septem is not a conventional stout, it is a Virgin Oak Barrel Aged Imperial Stout - Double Trouble and twice as delicious!
The Imperial Stout is in itself a powerful, aromatic beer. If you also pack it into a barrel after it is finished, the complex flavor levels explode and create a real firework display of warm, intense aromas. Kleos Imperial Stout is no exception: deep black and packed with interesting flavors, it is a real highlight in Septem's range.
Kleos Imperial Stout flows into the glass in an opaque, deep black mahogany tone and forms a finger's breadth of hazelnut brown foam. Wonderful aromas of whiskey-soaked oak, vanilla, hard, unripe pear, dark chocolate and plum rise from the small crown. The 10.3% vol. Alcohol is already reflected in the smell and gives hope for a warm, velvety beer. The taste test shows this smooth, warm mouthfeel, which is supported by the gentle carbonic acid. Dark chocolate mousse, cognac pears, tangy lemon zest, soft caramel and a hint of licorice meet on the tongue. Septems Kleo is a powerful beer that tastes pleasantly of liqueur and whiskey without being too boozy. The percentages are elegantly integrated into the taste and, if at all, stand out in a positive way.
Kleos Imperial Stout is an impressive beer made with great dexterity and excellent craftsmanship.
