I invite you to follow our journey, Cheers!

With these words, Frederik, boss and head behind the Dutch brewery Lowlander, welcomes his guests and invites them to accompany him on his culinary journey through the botany of Holland and the whole world.

In the footsteps of the East India Company

While working in a British distillery, Frederik discovered working with herbs, flowers and other plants. In magical processes, their tasty essence was extracted during distillation and processed into new, alcoholic creations. Frederik fell head over heels in love with these processes and the wondrous aromas of the English flora. As a true Dutchman, beer flows through Frederik's veins, so the idea of turning his new botanical knowledge into beer was not far off. Frederik was following in big footsteps: In the 17th century, the Netherlands was one of the most important export and colonial powers in the world. Dutch explorers brought countless spices, herbs and other precious items back from their long sea voyages, which of course also found their way into the beer kettles. Frederik, inspired by the creativity and innovation of his ancestors, quickly founded his own beer label and began brewing exciting beers.

The full plant power

Lowlanders beer is a glowing homage to Holland's golden age of sailors and explorers. With great attention to detail and passion for good barley juice, beer is brewed here that is intended to expand the horizons of every beer drinker and make them want more. With exotic ingredients such as yuzu or kaffir lime leaves, the brewers create extraordinary worlds of taste and complex aromas. Always keeping their own roots in mind, Dutch classics such as black Darjeeling tea or liquorice also find their way into the kettle. Like an alchemist, Frederik designs complicated tinctures and turns a handful of seemingly random ingredients into a beer masterpiece.

In times of raw food, veganism and ketogenic diets, brewing with botanical ingredients is clearly the trend. Hops and malt have always been an integral part of the brewing process and are crucial for the taste. Frederik therefore simply goes a few steps further with his botanical beers and perfects the tradition.

We, for one, are thrilled by Lowlander's imaginative, delicious creations and are happy to accompany the brewery on its journey to further culinary discoveries in the kingdom of plants!
