The Schlenkerla brewery is world-famous and one of the last, traditional smoked beer breweries ever. The Bamberg brewery dries its malt itself: the barley dries over beech wood fires and acquires the characteristic smoky taste.
The brewery offers a very special specialty with its smoked Doppelbock oak: the malt used for this is not smoked in the traditional way over beech wood, but rather over oak wood chips. The result is a much gentler smoky taste, which gives the smoked beer a noble touch and makes it a little more elegant than the traditional Schlenkerla Rauchmärzen. Oak or beech - the choice is yours!
As usual, the Schlenkerla Oak flows deep black into the glass and forms a fine-pored, creamy head of foam. An intense smoky note rises to the nose from the hazelnut-brown foam and has slightly salty hints. Tempting! The initial drink presents a great variety of aromas, including wonderfully soft notes of licorice, salty licorice and a fine smoky aroma. Supported by a gently tingling flavor, the Eiche Doppelbock from Schlenkerla definitely cuts a fine figure even among smoked beer skeptics.
The Schlenkerla is truly the queen of smoked beers: noble, drinkable and unique.
