The Franconian brewery Leikeim from Altenkunstadt has preserved a very special tradition: some of its brews are still made today using the centuries-old Steinbier process. With this technique, the mash is not heated electrically but using hot stones. The stones made to glow in the fire caramelize the malt sugar and ensure an exceptionally round and mildly sweet taste in the beer. This process used to be more common, but today hardly anyone bothers anymore.
Luckily, the Leikeim team spares no effort and expense and can therefore serve us this delicious delicacy. Your Steinweizen-Bock brings a fiery 7.0% alcohol content into the glass and presents itself in an opaque rust red. A majestic crown of ivory-colored, dense-pored and stable foam sits atop the beer and exudes a tempting scent of gently roasted malt and strong yeast. The initial drink follows the foot and continues the olfactory first impression in culinary terms. The yeast and grain are gradually joined by banana, cloves, toffee and red fruits. The velvety mouthfeel and full-bodied body give the beer a touch of luxury and make it an absolute favorite for the cold season.
When it’s wind and weather outside, it’s coziest inside with a cozy blanket and the stone wheat buck!
