On hot summer days, we crave light fare—crisp salads, colorful grilled vegetables, watermelon, Mediterranean dishes, and fruit ice cream. It's no different when it comes to beer: We crave brews that invigorate rather than weigh us down. Robust stouts, full-bodied IPAs, and strong bock beers are a perfect fit for the cold, cozy season thanks to their warming character and grippy, palate-pleasing texture. But in summer, we need something light-hearted, energizing with its drinkable and refreshing character, even when the sun blazes relentlessly from a cloudless sky.
This is precisely where Summa Hoibe from Schönramer comes in. The creation was the brainchild of Fredi and Lukas Oberlindober, the owner's sons, who represent the ninth generation of the traditional family brewery. With their unfiltered lager, they wanted to create a beer that would be just as suitable for a lakeside drink on hot days as it would be for a barbecue.
In the glass, Summa Hoibe shines a slightly cloudy light yellow and is crowned with a fine, creamy foam. Fresh, fruity, and grassy hop notes unfold on the nose, accompanied by a gentle yeasty note. The first sip presents a lean malt base, underscored by a harmonious hop bitterness with notes of freshly mown grass and juicy fruit. Sparkling carbonation adds lively effervescence and sparkling freshness.
