Under the title Turmherren, Kaiser Bräu from Neuhaus in Franconia has released a series of traditional Bavarian brews. The series includes timeless classics such as Pils, Weizen and Helle. The latter is sold under the name Turmherren Urhell and is a particularly down-to-earth and simple version of the beer style that is extremely popular in Franconia.
The Urhell from the Kaiser Bräus flows into the glass in crystal clear light gold and forms a fleeting crown of white foam. A delicate hint of sun-ripened grain and sweet toffee touches the nose. The first sip is slim and scores with a silky-smooth mouthfeel. On the tongue, hearty grain meets fruity hops, creamy caramel and a harmonious spiciness. The malt provides a lovely sweetness that is cushioned by mild bitterness. The beer brings a moderate 5.0% alcohol content to the table and is light and fresh both in taste and body.
If you want to combine this unfussy brew with a suitable dish, you can either take up the lightness and cook Mediterranean style or create a contrast with spice and spiciness. We are fans of spiciness, so we recommend a fiery Thai curry with vegetables, chicken and fragrant jasmine rice.
