Winter is citrus season throughout the Mediterranean region: depending on the variety, the juicy fruits ripen between November and March and taste best during this period. In their bright yellow or orange, they adorn the market stalls and shine through the dark green foliage in the gardens. You can conjure up a whole range of different dishes and dishes from the vitamin bombs, but we prefer to enjoy them in beer form. There are some hop varieties that conjure up a deceptively real citrus aroma in beer, including Citra and Mandarina Bavaria, but also Amarillo or Centennial.
For their latest brew, the Munich Brew Mafia chose the Mandarina Bavaria hops and combined them with blood orange puree to further increase their citrus-fresh effect. Her style of choice is the Gose: This wonderfully crisp sour beer is classically brewed with sea salt and coriander and, thanks to its elegant acidity and salty breeze, goes wonderfully with the sunny aroma of blood orange. The creation is called Sour Monster Bloodorange Gose and brings a gentle 4.5% alcohol content and a mild 10 units of bitterness to your glass.
