In order to be successful as a brewery, it is part of the process to have your finger on the pulse of the times. Brewers need to know what is currently happening in the beer scene and what beer lovers around the world are thirsting for. Of course, most breweries have their very own style, but they still cannot completely escape the dictates of trends. At least not if they want to remain relevant and successful.
With its latest creation Born To Be Free, Orca Brau shows us that the balancing act between your own signature and a trendy brew can be successful. After much deliberation, Felix vom Endt and his team bowed to pressure from beer fans and included an alcohol-free beer in their range. In order to remain true to themselves, however, they did not make a characterless, zero-eighteen beer without revolutions, but developed a tasty pale ale with less than 0.5% alcohol content together with Freigeist Bierkultur. The brew was brewed in the Vormann brewery in Hagen and, after completion, married with a sparkling lemonade.
The non-alcoholic shandy from the collaboration inspires with fruity acidity, lemony freshness and hoppy tartness and does without the sticky sweetness that is known from many shandy. The brewers affectionately call their creation “beery lemonade” and enjoy it on ice on sunny days.
