Idyll is a word that describes a simple, peaceful life. It usually conjures up a picture of rural harmony far removed from chaos, stress, and urban hustle and bustle. One imagines small hamlets with a handful of half-timbered houses, merrily babbling streams, blooming meadows, gentle valleys, shady, emerald-green forests, cats sleeping in front of tiled stoves, wooden tables covered with jam, homemade butter, and stone-baked bread, Grandma’s marble bundt cake, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and the exuberant chirping of colorful songbirds—pure idyll!
Atelier Vrai isn’t into this kind of kitsch and peace-and-love. The brewers have all sorts of dystopian ideas and post-apocalyptic worlds buzzing through their heads, and they share them with us by transforming them into majestic beer creations. One of these masterpieces is Idyllabfuhr—a Triple New England IPA that takes an almost cynical (but very tasty) look at the decline of the idyllic and ideal world. Flavored with Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, and Sabro hops, the brew reaches a stunning 9.4% alcohol content. A trio of barley, oat, and wheat malts creates a grippy, stable texture that envelops the palate with a soft, velvety texture.
Atelier Vrai’s cold-hopped Idyllabfuhr combines earthy tartness with bright grapes, white wine, coconut, tropical fruits, citrus zest, pine resin, and a creamy hint of caramel to create a beer that lets you forget the impending doom for a few delicious moments.
