Due to the lack of cooling facilities, beer used to be brewed exclusively between September and April. In the summer months it was simply too warm and no one could guarantee a safe, drinkable product. Year after year, the beer season ended with March. This powerful strong beer was designed to be enjoyed as long as possible into the second half of the year. The brewers have achieved the longer shelf life by adding more hops and alcohol. Today there is no longer a need for extra-long-life beer, but the march has stubbornly persisted. This is not least due to the fact that it is also served at Oktoberfest.

The malty aroma of the fruity Märzen from Hacker-Pschorr is best eaten hearty: sausage with music, roast, grilled chicken or bratwurst harmonize wonderfully with the gentle roasted aromas and hints of creamy blossom honey. The hops provide a delightful freshness that balances even the fattiest cut of suckling pig, while also contributing a subtle bitterness that cleanses the palate and prepares it for popcorn, cotton candy, candy apples and roasted almonds.
