Barbarossa I Am is a brewery from Hamburg that honors the roots of its city with very special beers. They dedicated their fabulous Hansebock to the Hanseatic people, Frederick I, the brewery’s namesake, received a delicious imperial stout in gratitude for his achievements and the fresh Gose is a monument to the hard-working coopers. This porter with coriander and vanilla, matured in red wine barrels, is intended to thank the hard-working dock workers who played and continue to play an important role, especially in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg.
The noble beer flows into the glass in a clear fawn color with a gentle, copper-red shimmer. An ivory-colored crown towers on top and emits a tantalizing scent. Notes of red fruits, intense red wine, roasted grains and raisins combine to create an olfactory pleasure that skilfully entices you to drink. The first sip follows the same pattern and enchants the palate with a dark symphony of heavy, ripe fruits, roasted malt and wine. The coriander provides a fresh, tart herbal moment, while the vanilla harmonizes wonderfully with the wood notes of the oak barrel and brings a warm spiciness into play. The 35 bitter units act as a rounding element, but are not overly dominant in the overall picture.
Barbarossa I Ams Porter is a successful representative of its style and a good choice for those who are thirsty for a more unconventional version of it!
