As befits a brewery, Firestone Walker celebrates every anniversary with a special beer. This tradition was introduced in 2006, when the Californian brewery celebrated its tenth anniversary. The brews in the Anniversary Ale series are brews that are a little more refined, significantly more elaborate and complex than those in the core range. To give the fine drops the finishing touch, they are often barrel-aged. The most aromatic barrels are selected every year as part of a competition between wineries and distilleries.
Firestone Walker's Twenty-Two Anniversary Ale celebrated the brewery's 22nd anniversary in 2018 with a voluminous beer: The birthday ale brings a festive 12.7% to the glass and consists not of one brew, but of five different ones that matured in different barrels and were then married together. Each wood previously housed a different distillate, including gin, bourbon and rum, all of which gave the beers a wonderful aroma.
This vintage edition of the Twenty-Two Anniversary Ale is a majestic blend of two Blonde Barley Wines, an Imperial Brown Ale, a Russian Imperial Stout and a Quadrupel, which were matured in bourbon, rum and gin barrels. The masterpiece has a voluminous body, caresses the tongue with infinite velvety smoothness and tastes of strongly roasted malt, creamy caramel, candied red fruits, vanilla, oak and all kinds of fine liquors. Exquisite!
