This wonderful Belgian Strong Golden Ale was brewed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Belgian Chimay Trappist Brewery. Originally brewed for the occasion in 2012 as a limited edition, the Chimay 150 2021 celebrated its comeback in the regular range of the brewery.
The world-famous Trappist beer from Belgium has been produced by the monks of the Notre Dame de Scourmont monastery in the municipality of Chimay since 1862. The traditional brewing process of the monks within the monastery and the second fermentation in the bottle characterize the Trappist beer. Due to this special production, only seven breweries worldwide can now count themselves among the Trappist breweries. By adding a small amount of candy sugar, the Belgian Strong Golden Ale undergoes a second fermentation inside the bottle, which gives the special taste of Chimay 150.
The Chimay 150 flows pleasantly into the glass with a clear golden color and impresses with its stable white foam crown. The tempting scent of fine dried fruits rises through the foam into the nose, as does a slightly floral note. The Chimay 150 impresses with its balanced taste and many fine aromas, ranging from fruity to spicy notes. A subtle bitter hop bitterness accompanies sweet dried fruit and fine herbs. The interplay of fruity sweetness and the peppery spiciness of the spices used make the Chimay 150 a very special treat. The combination of the two hop variants Saar and Hallertau Mittelfruh round off the taste perfectly. The slightly bitter, spicy finish perfectly complements the sweetness of the fruit. Coriander and cardamom also complement the spicy taste.
The Chimay 150 is the result of the brewing experience of several generations of brewers who have been following this brewing tradition at Scourmont Abbey for over 150 years. This care makes it a wonderfully authentic Belgian Strong Ale.
