The Oude Geuze is a traditional Belgian beer style. Lambics of different ages are married together to combine the characteristics of young, freshly brewed beer with those of older, more mature brews and to benefit from both. A true master of this style is Armand, who perfected his art over the course of a long brewing career and later passed it on to his successors. Using regional raw materials of the highest quality, centuries-old techniques, time-honored craftsmanship and plenty of peace and quiet, his team produces incomparably masterful Oude Geuze in many different versions.
For the classic, the simple Oude Geuze in its unrefined form, six different lambics are married together. The individual base beers come from three well-known breweries and were stored in six different wooden barrels. Around 80% of the brew was stored for three or four years, the remaining 20% is younger beer. The Oude Geuze was neither pasteurized nor filtered and is stored for a further year after bottling, during which it undergoes further fermentation. This final step in the refinement process gives the speciality a champagne-like effervescence and rounds off the character to perfection.
The masterpiece flows into the glass in a delicately cloudy copper gold and is crowned with a veil of soft, off-white foam. A fine aroma of sun-kissed apples, ripe stone fruits, sparkling white wine, lemon, leather and spicy oak wood runs like a common thread through the scent and taste. The Geuze has an elegant acidity that harmonizes wonderfully with the full-bodied aroma.
