Trainspotting is not only a disturbing film about the ugly side effects of heroin addiction and a hobby for people who love rail transportation, but also the title of a beer. To mark the 10th anniversary of Berlin Beer Week, the breweries BrewDog and Lemke Berlin have teamed up for a collaboration brew. Their joint work is called Trainspotting Berlin and is fortunately available here outside of the festivities.
Trainspotting Berlin is a so-called Cold IPA. This relatively new variation of the classic India Pale Ale is usually brewed with bottom-fermenting yeast and offers the hops a neutral stage on which they can develop wonderfully. The team chose the varieties Citra, Cryo Pop and Talus - a mixture that delivers a real explosion of colorful fruit aromas alongside crisp bitterness and spicy herbal notes.
The anniversary beer is presented in a clear amber gold and is decorated with a crown of airy foam. A cocktail of various fruits rises to the nose and promises juicy enjoyment. The first sip is wonderfully fresh, slim and straightforward. The bitterness runs like a thread through the drinking pleasure and harmonizes wonderfully with the blend of forest herbs, grapefruit, mandarin, yuzu and melon. A fruity acidity in the finish concludes the experience and leaves you thirsty for more.
