Just as "Charge of the Light Brigade" isn’t just any song, the Trooper it inspired isn’t just any beer. The legendary song is penned by the heavy metal gods Iron Maiden and Trooper is the beer to match. The brewers of the Robinsons brewery have maintained a close friendship with the band members for years: they drink, celebrate and brew together. This unusual, cross-industry collaboration has already produced a number of hits, but The Trooper is the undisputed king among them.
The classic English ale has been brewed since 2013 and is anything but classic: A hand-picked blend of the hop varieties Goldings, Cascade and Bobek give the beer its strong bitterness and the hint of lemon, malt and metal do the rest.
Bruce Dickinson’s beery composition flows into the glass in the color of victorious gold and shimmers blood-red when the light hits it. An ivory-colored foam head is enthroned like a laurel wreath on its head and exudes a bouquet of tangy citrus fruit, buttery caramel popcorn and hay. The attack is surprisingly elegant: light-footed notes of toasted grain and toffee ensnare the palate before a potpourri of yeast braid with cream, grassy hops and sunny citrus unfolds. A pointed bitterness skilfully rounds off the beer pleasure.
We stock the Trooper in cans and bottles , as well as the Fear of the Dark variant.
