Dubbel is a beer style deeply rooted in Belgian monastic culture and is still considered the epitome of monastic brewing. The name means "double" and refers to the richer use of malt and stronger texture compared to simple ales and abbey beers. With its dark color, complex aromas, and slightly higher alcohol content, Dubbel embodies the combination of traditional craftsmanship and mindful enjoyment—a beer that isn't drunk hastily, but rather experienced and savored with all the senses.
The Trappist brewery La Trappe pays tribute to this tradition with a Dubbel that impresses both visually and tastefully. It flows into the glass a deep chestnut brown with ruby red reflections and is crowned with a fine, ivory-colored foam. Aromas of vanilla, caramel, roasted cocoa, and a hint of cloves unfold on the nose. The palate reveals a harmonious interplay of malty sweetness, delicate roasted aromas, and hints of chocolate, dates, figs, and honey. A gentle, almost velvety bitterness elegantly rounds off the experience.
With an alcohol content of 7.0%, La Trappe Dubbel is full-bodied, yet its balanced character makes it extremely drinkable. It pairs perfectly with braised dishes, spicy cheeses, or even sweet desserts like crème brûlée or apple pie. We stock this classic in small and large bottles.
