Mangoes are delicious fruits with sunny golden flesh under green, yellow or red skin that hang on long branches of majestic trees. They grow wherever it is warm and transform the power of the sun into sugary sweetness. You can peel them and eat them plain, but you can also make delicious things with them. Some pickle them sweet and sour, others mix lassi out of it, cook with it, dry it or eat the mango with a mixture of salt and chili. Others make beer from it.
The brewers at the Dutch brewery Gebrouwen Door Vrouwen are fans of mangoes and have made the fruit the star of their latest creation. Misty Mango is a delightful New England IPA that combines the exotic flavors of mango with other tropical fruits. The natural mango aroma and the hop varieties Citra and Galaxy are responsible for the fruit explosion. Cold hopping was used to extract the full fruitiness of the green gold without increasing the bitterness too much. The NEIPA still has 43 bitter units that go perfectly with the juicy mango, peach, pineapple and citrus notes. Malted oats as well as barley and wheat malt bring a nice cloudiness to the beer and create a texture that we would describe as grippy and creamy.
