Friendships are always fruitful because they enrich us spiritually, inspire us, infect us with new ideas, fill us with joy and give us the kick in the butt that we need when we procrastinate or are lazy. In the case of friendships between brewers, this is expressed in a completely different, delicious way. Collaboration brews are the fruit of brewer friendships and our chance to benefit from them. After all, joy shared is joy doubled!
The friendship between the Hofstetten brewery from the Austrian Mühlenviertel and the Browar Stu Mostów from Poland has produced two brews: their Friends NEIPA and a sour version of it. The Friends NEIPA Sour is based on the same basic recipe with barley and wheat malt, oat flakes and the hops Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe, but is fermented with a different yeast. A sour beer yeast is used for the sour version. This small variation gives the beer a crisp acidity that harmonizes wonderfully with the juicy fruitiness. The densely cloudy, golden New England IPA envelops the palate with notes of mango, pineapple, peach, lemon, orange and pine resin. A subtle bitterness and the ever-present acidity round off the pleasure harmoniously.
This friendship beer is limited to 7000 bottles and will probably only be brewed this once.
