We live in a complicated age. Lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance are no longer uncommon. The Catalan brewery Espiga is aware of the growing challenges in the food business and has brewed a beer especially for all gluten avoiders. It’s bad enough that pasta and pizza are taboo, it’s hard to imagine if beer is also no longer available. Luckily there is Espiga and their Blonde Ale!
Skeptics should immediately be told that this beer is in no way inferior to its gluten-containing colleagues. We even dare to say that no amount of Feinspitz could taste the difference. With their Blond Ale, Espiga has created a real fruit bomb. The cloudy golden ale smells wonderfully of tropical fruits, white grapes and juicy watermelon as soon as you pour it. The seductive scent doesn’t promise too much: the first sip is already a fruit explosion. The taste of tropical fruits remains and is carried by a tangy carbonation. The finish is bitter for a long time and definitely makes you want the next bottle!
Espiga’s Blond Ale is a beery revelation for anyone who has eliminated gluten from their diet. And for everyone else too, because it is an excellent ale that goes wonderfully with Mediterranean dishes. We recommend a menu consisting of fresh salad with lukewarm goat cheese thalers, grilled fish with rosemary potatoes and a tart with fresh berries and cream for dessert with the well-chilled Blond Ale.
