In the world of craft beer, it is often the hops that take the lead role and steals the spotlight. The men and women behind the kettles are in love with the green gold and its wide variety of flavor components. Hops can transform a beer into a true delicacy. The same goes for malt, but in our hop-crazy times, the grain plays a subordinate role, even though it offers just as many facets as its resinous counterpart.
Black Block from La Pirata is all about malt. The Spanish brewery puts the grain at the center and spins a wonderfully intense taste experience that couldn't be more malty. To conjure up the maximum of hearty enjoyment in the glass, the brewery used six different types of malt and barley flakes for its Russian Imperial Stout. This fullness delivers a powerful aroma, an impressive stature and a velvety-soft mouthfeel.
Black Block flows into the glass in the color of freshly brewed coffee and is adorned with a majestic crown of dense, creamy, hazelnut-brown foam. A sensual composition of roasted aromas, molasses, chocolate with a delicate melt, caramel, strong espresso and brown sugar form the scent and taste. A hint of liquorice, a fiery 13.0% alcohol content and a powerful 72 bitter units give the brew the finishing touch.
