In areas where there are no houses to illuminate the darkness at night, the stars appear particularly numerous in the sky and bring brightness into the night instead of electric light. When dark clouds obscure the sky and block the way for starlight, these are the very places that harbor the darkest darkness.
Even if you don't suspect it, Öö is a word. It is the Estonian term for night and the name of a fantastic porter from Põhjala. Öö is an Imperial Baltic Porter that is as dark as Estonian winter nights. And strong enough to warm you even on the coldest evening of winter.
Öö appears in the pitch-black color of the night sky and forms a fine, hazelnut-brown head of foam. The concept can be guessed as soon as you open the bottle: dark caramel meets the full-bodied aroma of dark fruits in the nose. Connoisseurs smell plums, raisins and fresh cranberries in the tempting potpourri. A hint of smoke like from a distant campfire complements the scent and increases the excitement before the first sip. This reveals a voluminous body. The roasty acidity of fresh espresso hits the tongue and is almost immediately balanced by the taste of smooth toffee. Like many porters, Öö increases in intensity as the temperature increases. Põhjala's interpretation has the dark aroma of ripe currants and notes of melt-in-the-mouth dark chocolate in the background. The finish presents a wonderful warmth that extends from the palate down to the stomach and warms body and soul.
Absolutely delicious!
