In the Guatemalan highlands, Maximón is a deity worshiped in many different forms. He has good and bad powers and is invoked in very individual ceremonies and prayers. When it comes to worshiping Maximón, there is no single canon, making the god all the more mystical and mysterious.
The Finnish brewers at Estonia-based Sori Brewery express their admiration for the Mayan god in the form of a delicious beer: Maximón is an Imperial Baltic Porter with an impressive 10.5% ABV and a dark, complex aroma. The powerful beer inspires with a silky smooth mouthfeel, creamy texture and the legendary combination of fruity notes of chili and delicately melting chocolate.
The divine beer presents itself in a deep, opaque black in the glass and is crowned with a hand’s breadth of hazelnut-brown, dense-pored foam. A bouquet of caramel, chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, liquorice and dried fruit fills the air. A sharp hint of chilli joins in and makes you excited for the first sip. The first sip covers the tongue and palate like a warm blanket: Powerful and intense notes of freshly brewed coffee, toasted malt, creamy chocolate and candied dates delight the taste buds. Hints of cinnamon and vanilla, liquorice, chili and raisins elegantly round off the play of aromas.
