A Franconian classic with cult status.
The Zehndner brewery from Mönchsambach doesn’t have a huge selection: fancy craft beers and such knick-knacks can be found here for a long time. What is available, however, is good, down-to-earth Franconian beer of excellent quality. Due to the large selection, the Franconians are picky when it comes to their beer. Cellar beers are a dime a dozen here, but every Franconian beer drinker knows the unspun Mönchsambacher Export. It is one of the most popular beers and is not only popular in the cathedral city of Bamberg.
The Mönchsambacher Export presents itself in a shiny, clear gold in the glass and is crowned by an impressive amount of white foam. From the airy head of foam, a tempting scent of roasted malt, fresh yeast dough, grass clippings, sun-kissed straw and fine citrus fruits wafts into your nose. The initial taste reveals a medium-weight body with gentle carbonic acid and a wide range of great flavor nuances: light grain meets warm bread dough, fragrant hay and delicate citrus notes on the tongue. A touch of honey elegantly rounds off the aromatics. The bitterness is delicately balanced and gives the beer a clear structure. The finish is hoppy and tastes like more!
By the way, the winking monk with a beer mug in his hand on the label comes from the unforgettable Nuremberg artist and cartoonist Gerd Bauer.
