Basil is a spice plant that can be found in many different forms in Europe and Asia. It's not known exactly where basil originated, but there are theories that it originated in northwest India. The aromatic plant probably found its way to Germany as early as the 12th century. Since then, it has been used in European, but primarily Mediterranean, cuisine, giving dishes an intense kick. We love the classic combination of tomato, mozzarella, and basil; we use it to top our pizza, make pesto, and, if we're feeling adventurous, we use it to enhance our fruit salads, lemonades, and desserts. Strawberries, in particular, go wonderfully with the herb. But beer and basil? At first glance, it might not seem like a dream match, but thanks to Ulrike Genz's expertise and skill, this unconventional combination is a real hit.
The master brewer from the capital is dedicated to the creation and perfection of Berliner Weisse, bringing us a range that showcases this style in all its glory. Ulrike combines Berliner Weisse with flowers, fruits, and herbs, and recently turned to basil to create another delicious example of her craft.
The Basil White is an opaque, honey-gold brew that delivers fruity acidity, floral notes, and tangy freshness with a distinctive basil note. Unique!
