Although this brew from the pen of Sudden Death Brewing has a name reminiscent of brutal action films and fiery explosions, the Imperial Fruited Sour is presented in a very soft, romantic pink in the glass. Airy foam in rosé crowns the creation and makes a surprisingly harmless impression.
Ultimately what brings the looks and the name together is the aroma: Lava Blast Cannon assaults the taste buds with a heavy load of fruit thanks to the addition of fresh fruit puree and concentrate. The strong sour beer was married with strawberries, rhubarb and lemons in a pureed and concentrated form and is accordingly fruity.
The brewers responsible for the culinary delight lovingly describe their work as grandma’s rhubarb cake and are not wrong at all. Sour notes of rhubarb mix on the palate with the summery sweetness of freshly picked strawberries and the freshness kick of lemon, while four different malts and a portion of oatmeal give the beer biscuit-like hints. The finishing touches are the finest vanilla and a touch of sea salt, which no cake should be without. So if you’re longing for grandma’s rhubarb cake with strawberries, you’ve come to the right place!
