The Bamberg pub Zapfhahn has specialized in the irresistible duo and offers its customers the finest, homemade burgers with matching barley juice. In a Franconian-Franconian collaboration, the Zapfhahn team recently sat down with the Orca brewery from Nuremberg to create the ultimate beer to go with a burger.
The brewery and burger roastery have come up with Burning Hahn: The lager is based on the classic Franconian brewing craft and contains an ingredient that is typically Bamberg. Because the cathedral city is Germany’s undisputed smoked beer center, the brewers have added a touch of smoked malt to the malt selection. In contrast to the legendary smoked beer from Schlenkerla, Orcas Burning Hahn is not an aromatic club that tastes like smoked ham and campfire, but rather a delicately balanced lager with a mild smoky note.
The hazelnut-brown beauty smells and tastes of fresh hops, hearty grains and delicate smoke - perfect with a grilled beef patty with melted goat cheese on home-baked brioche, which has been spread with wild garlic mayonnaise and topped with caramelized onions, rocket and bacon. The gentle Burning Hahn also goes well with halloumi, bean patties or shiitake burgers.
