Allow me to introduce myself, Hans. Affectionately called Little Hans by his creators.
This handsome little fellow comes in a shiny, almost clear honey gold and is crowned with thick, fluffy, white foam. It is the brainchild of three friendly parties: Nuremberg’s Orca Brau teamed up with Heilbronn’s Craftelicious beer bar and the Czech brewery Trojan Telč to create a light and fluffy collaborative brew. The fruit of their joint efforts is Klein Hans – a Bohemian pilsner that combines the centuries-old brewing art of the Czech Republic with the charm and wit of Franconia.
This unfiltered beer delight is made with grain from Franconia and a Czech-Franconian hop blend. To give the malt a beautiful depth and volume, the decoction process was used: By removing a portion of the mash, boiling it separately, and then returning it to the main mash, the mash is left to rest at different temperatures and intensifies the malt aroma. The full-bodied grain is complemented by the Saaz, Premiant, and Sladek hop varieties. They balance the sweetness and full-bodiedness of the grain with crisp bitterness, lean freshness, and a wonderful tartness.
Klein Hans is a straightforward pilsner that combines spice, floral notes, and a hint of fruity acidity with a velvety-smooth malt base. A real winner!
