When something particularly exciting, wonderful, thrilling, or unexpected happens to us, our face falls for a moment and we say something like "Oh my God," "Good heavens," "Wow," or "My goodness!"—each of us has our own repertoire of exclamations that come in handy in such moments. Every language has such expressions, and in Vietnam, people say "Trời Ơi" when there’s a surprise visit at the door, when Grandma’s envelope contains more than just a card, when it suddenly starts pouring rain, or when they find out they’re going to be an aunt.
Orca Brau from Franconia has used this beautiful expression to give their latest creation a fitting name. Trời Ơi is a rice lager with peach, shiso, and oolong tea, created in collaboration with the Fürth restaurant Chung. Chung combines the cuisine of various Asian countries with a touch of Franconian charm. And it was precisely this flair for fusion that was evident in the collaborative brew.
Trời Ơi owes its light body to rice: part of the malt mash has been replaced with this grain, giving the beer a fresh lightness. Peach puree provides a juicy fruit kick, while shiso from the restaurant’s own garden contributes a spiciness reminiscent of lemon, mint, and anise. The fine oolong tea rounds off the beer with floral elegance. Delicious!
