Although beer in our latitudes can be made entirely from regional ingredients, many breweries use ingredients that have traveled far and wide. This is primarily because craft beer can contain a wide variety of ingredients, and the world offers a cornucopia of flavors. International hop varieties are a brilliant way to expand the flavor profile of a brew without violating the Bavarian Purity Law, but many craft breweries have long since moved beyond this restriction and draw from a vast array of sources when selecting their ingredients.
The Orca Brau brewery in Nuremberg is no exception. Felix and his team love to pull out all the stops, refining their beers with everything the planet has to offer. Their latest creation, Misato, is a true treasure trove of international flavors. The base style is an India Pale Ale, with roots in England. A Belgian Wit yeast provides the spice, and the classic Wit additions of coriander seed and orange peel are also on the ingredient list. The hop varieties Amarillo, Citra, and Idaho 7 come from the United States. Sansho pepper and yuzu from Japan add a touch of the exotic.
The international beer Misato combines intense citrus aromas, fresh fruitiness, and spicy yeast with a gently tingling spiciness, a smooth mouthfeel, and aromatic complexity. A world tour in every sip!
